85-Year History

A History of Service and Excellence

Pilgrim Dry Cleaners is a family-owned and operated dry cleaning and garment care company located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. And although our technology and methods have evolved over the decades, our commitment to Convenience, Quality, and Service has never wavered.

Our company began operations in 1940, serving the entire upper Midwest under the name Johnny on the Spot. Don Rosen joined the business in the early 1950s, and Johnny on the Spot was consolidated. In 1984, Don became the sole owner and changed the company’s name to Pilgrim Dry Cleaners, opening additional stores throughout the Twin Cities area. In 1986, he founded the Coats for Kids drive to ensure children in need would have access to warm coats during the winter. Since the beginning of the drive, Pilgrim has collected, cleaned, and distributed approximately 500,000 coats to Minnesota families in need.

Don passed leadership of the company to his daughter, Bonnie Engler, in January 2004. Bonnie quickly left her mark on the company, launching an extensive rebrand to help us better reach our customers.

Bonnie passed the torch to her son, Derek Engler, in January 2025. As CEO, Derek brings a fresh perspective and a deep understanding of both our customers’ evolving needs and the laundry industry’s latest developments. Derek is proud to carry on our family-owned legacy and continues to look for new ways to make garment care easy for our customers.
